I just bought a PRO-96 Scanner to scan in my digital-friendly state of Colorado. I have never scanned trunked systems before. As I understand it, I only have to enter the control freq. and the scanner will pick up talkgroups and follow conversations all by itself. Am I mistaken? Do I have to load the talkgroups myself?

Do it in several steps. Be sure you have the correct tower controller and there be an alt. Be sure Freq,Band,Mode are all set to MO if its a Motorola system. Run in open mode. [+]. Make a list of all ID's heard. When you figure out the ones you want to monitor, enter them into the ID memory section and run in closed mode [-]. I run the SC statewide system in bank -0- and lockout all known ID's except for one or two I want to hear. NOW if anything new comes up on the system, I'll catch it really quick. I call this my digital test mode. This system is still under const and new stuff pops up every week. The 96 is not only a good scanner, its a good test inst. Good Luck, Larry

If the system that you are trying to monitor is Mot Type II Smartzone:

1. Enter all control channels and set RX to MOT for each channel.
2. Set Type to MOT

3. Set the baud rate to normal

4. Set all fleetmaps to S00

5. Set bank to open mode

All talkgroups will show on display.

P.S. Buy a PC cable for the Pro 96 and download a copy of Win96. It makes programming much easier then doing it manually.
