I just tapped my 996T and set up UniTrunker. The system I want to monitor is P25 450-460MHz (http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=4076). The quality level does not go above 22%, but when monitor another P25 system but 800MHz, the quality level goes to 90-99%.
In reading, I discovered that I could use my PRO-2006 that I tapped LONG ago to use a Universal M-400 decoder (and I am an idiot because I didn't need to mod my 996T, which I think I messed up the green backlight somehow and that I could have been using UniTrunker for years now). With the PRO-2006, the quality level goes up to 75-99%.
What am I doing wrong with the 996T? NO, (I know, I know) I did not install a tantalum cap or resistor inline with the tap. I think on the PRO-2006, the center is soldered to one end of a resistor.
