Not sure if anyone else saw this in the newspaper, but WFSB wants a bigger tower in Tolland..
http://www.tolland.org/PlanningZoni...tes_8-15-05.pdf (page 3)

It also mentions Tolland Dispatch..

Anyone got any more info? What freqs does WFSB have on there? Will TN have better coverage? New freqs?

-Mark

yes its true. tn is paying for half to get better coverage and ch 3
gets the other half.
i will try to see what else ch 3 will put up there. all i know now is ch 3 has a backup transmitter there.

Nope.
All WFSB transmitting (analog and digital) equipment is on Avon Mountain with no such backups in Tolland. The Tolland site is used for ENG (Microwave Live Truck) pick up only.
They are probably trying to get some coverage into the Springfield, MA area where they have dead spots, and it is also tied in with the NEXTEL changes to the BAS as well.

Edit:
Now with that said, WFSB might opt to use an on-channel booster for their digital station on that tower so that it has coverage similar to the old VHF analog channel...

Right now the only other agency I am aware that is going on that site is Tolland Fire. TN may try to get some space on the tower but that still remains to be seen. Earlier this year they were attempting to add a section to their existing Bald Hill site which fell through due to adjacent structures in the fall zone.

Is this the same Bald Hill site by I84 or another Bald Hill? I think there are several hills in the area called Bald Hill. The one I am talking about has one of the orignal AT&T Long Lines sites still up there next to the CSP/NU towers.

Yest there is Bald Hill in Union where a CLP/SP tower is located. There is a tower in Tolland not too far from the dispatch center that is called the "Bald Hill" tower I believe because you access the tower via Bald Hill Road. There is also a Bald Mountain in Somers but I do not belive there is any radio equipment on it.

Any idea what 153.8075 is used for? Very weird ERP. Not very powerful.

Is this the old tower or the new tower?

The WFSB Tower is the new tower and the Bald Hill Tower is the old one that is owned by Tolland County Mutaul Aid Fire Service. Tolland Fire is building a UHF voting receiver system on the new WFSB tower. 154.740 is the old Tolland Police frequency that the fire department has crossbanded to 33.44 so their new Minitor 3, 4, and 5 pagers can receive 33.44 traffic on thier two channel tone and voice pagers. There is currently no receive capability on 154.740 only transmit. My guess is that they will move this radio and antenna to the new WFSB tower once it is built and remove it from the Bald Hill site. As far as the other VHF frequency I beleive it is for the Town of Tolland public works. My guess is that they will move this frequency to the new site as well thus vacating all radios for the town of Tolland off the Bald Hill tower. This should greatly improve thier transmit and recieve capability as the new tower will be higher that the Bald Hill tower. The town of Tolland and the fire department are doing some great work with two way communications in their town.
