This evening I noticed a whole slew of new tower neighbors listed on the Wichita tower. Only one, Tower 116d (110h), seems to be active right now. I was just able to pull it in on the scanner.

System ID : 1b2

Not sure which tower this is. Could be Lyons (Rice County) or Preston (Pratt County). My bet is on Preston since it is showing a connection to Mayfield in Sumner County. I will listen for the CWID when I can. Not sure I can even pick it up at work, but will give it a shot tomorrow. Either site will be about 55 to 65 miles from my site, so the signal is somewhat weak.

What is even more interesting is the routing table preset on this tower. It has slots for Towers 117 thru 122 already set up....

Not really sure. My guess is Preston over in Pratt County. It has a connection to the Partridge, Wichita, and Mayfield towers. The only other tower I can think of is the Rice County tower and that would probably be too far north to have a connection to the Mayfield tower. It isn't stong enough to be the Hutchinson tower. I still haven't been able to catch it ID. I can't pick it up from work (no outside antennas) and haven't remembered to listen at the right time when I am home. It idents at :16 and :46 after the hour (and yes I know, I posted this just few minutes after that and thought about tuning the radio only now...) on 866.90000 mHz.

Is there anyone that lives in Pratt or closer than 65 miles to Preston here on the forum? Maybe they can catch it????

The KSICS webpage had the following dates of activation for SC KS towers listed.

Fellsburg 4/4
Lyons 4/18
Great Bend 4/25
Rush Center 5/2
Sharon 5/16
Wilmore 5/30

So, reading this that should complete KHP's Troop F by the beginning of June, right?

That seems to reach pretty far SW too- wasn't the Edwards Tower the one that was used through Kiowa County during the Greensburg Tornado last year? With Garden City activated it would be interesting to know how good KSICS coverage is southwest- not like you have lots of hills etc to block the signal!

I have been consistently receiving site 0116, TG 315, for about the last 18 hours on 867.2375. Receiving location has been Larned and now this morning at work in Kinsley. I am using a V.2 396T, and am surprisingly getting one signal bar in a fairly substantial building. I have never received any P25 transmissions out this way before. I am also getting the Ford County conventional tower this morning with no problems.

The Fellsburg site is quite close to Kinsley, but I would think the signal strength would be greater if it were coming from that site. The conventional transmissions from that tower have always been nearly full scale in Kinsley. I easily receive UHF signals from Kiowa County, and sometimes from Pratt on the 396T.

Anyway, perhaps that will help identify the location of this tower.

UPDATE:

This may have been just an unusually long propagational opening, as I have now lost the signal from 116 as of about 1000 CDT.

KSICS Site 117 on the air - from where??

867.4875 site 117 appeared briefly last night. The signal was quite weak in Pawnee County. Site 116 was coming in off and on, too.

Here is what is coming off of the Partridge Tower:

122,"T0116",1b2,"00-0000",851.00625,""----------------------Failed

This would show that Towers 116 and 117 are far enough away from the Partridge Tower that they are not connecting, but close enough to the Wichita Tower to either be hard-linked or heard. Anybody close enough to the Bennington Tower to pull the data off of it?

Just got back from out of state, and am now receiving towers 115, 116, 117, and 119. Sounds like 119 may be the Great Bend tower as the local KHP units are going 10-8 (TG 315) on that system. Also just heard TG 227 (KDOT) trying out their "new" radios on the system.

For some reason the KDOT units are very clear while the KHP units have that "watery" sound to them. Maybe the difference between handheld and mobile coverage?

Site 119 is fairly consistent in reception. The others are intermittent.

Tower sites and control channels are:

0115 866.7375
0116 867.2375
0117 867.4875
0119 867.1125
0122 866.7375

Also heard one short transmission last night from TG 655, but didn't catch which system it was on at the time.

I spoke with a Garden City trooper a couple weeks ago who said Rush and Edwards towers should be operational within the month. He also said they will have two radios, one for the P25 and another for the conventional towers, since most of the troop out here remains conventional.

EDIT: Just heard TG 335, trooper calling Garden City, ref. a 10-47 car. vs. deer in Rush County on site 122, 866.7375, so believe this may be the Rush County tower. Receiving two signal bars on the 396T in Larned.

The last time I was down by Lyons, I was getting some noise on one of the freq's for the Hutch tower but no data. Maybe they're getting that up??
