Picked up a couple MICRO-TEL PR-700A Receivers. Super cool radios. Covers 3KHz to 2GHz in all modes and the coolest thing of all is the built in sub carrier receiver. The radio is built like a tank, weighs 30 pounds and has all kinds of cool heat sinks and cooling fans. Super sensitive and quiet. A few pics......

Can you tell us what its original intent was, who would use it and what you can get on it compared to "regular" issue? That looks like serious professional grade Thanks

The radio I guess would be best called a "spook" receiver I guess. I think they were used a good bit in labs also. There is very little information on the radios on the net. Maybe someone can chime in and tell us some history on the rig. These radios are very affordable and pack a good punch. I have seen them sell for as little as $500.

Jody, is that the new 15X on the speaker? How is it working out? I am thinking of getting one for my milair listening. Need to get an antenna that will pull signals out better than what I am currently using. Your station certainly has come a long way since its inception.

You know the old saying...

Everyone says that he who has the most toys wins but I'll change that to he who has the best toys wins. I'll concede, you are the winner. Nice radios (these and all of your others).

I am gonna get a BCT-15X and compare that with my RS PRO-163 later this year. Yes that is a BCT-15X, he told me he was getting one.

Anyway, nice setup and nice new radio as always! Do you offer summer camp?? LOL :)

I like the BCT15. The squelch hysteresis is spot on. RF sensitivity in the UHF 225-400MHz area is plenty good. The radio still suffers from inter modulation much more so in the 225-400MHz spectrum than my RS Pro-2045's. The RS Pro-2045's are almost impossible to beat when you are talking about 225-400Mhz performance. The BCT15 would take the cake if the intermod issue wasn't there. Again this all depends on where you are and what strong transmitters are local to you. In my particular case the radio is being ate up by the local 162.400 NOAA transmitter mixing with a few others, most all VHF hi freqs. I am using a 400Mhz low pass filter on the radio now. If I were to add a 225-400Mhz bandpass inline I am sure that this would clear up. All in all I like it but I am disappointed by VHF HI intermod in the 225-400MHz range.
