I certainly understand the concern about the state of the state's finances. For that reason, the timing isn't perfect but the need for a new Troop HQ is absolutely warranted. Most of these buildings are 1960s era cookie cutter government buildings, built for those times, and with little to no room for growth, not to mention the lack of foresight of the digital era. I can attest to all of this working in a Troop HQ building. Our building deals with the lack of storage space, officers bedrooms doubling as offices, inadequate power and networking for computers, inefficient heating/cooling systems, just to name a few. G Troop is the only one I believe is getting a new building. B and D Troops are only getting new Forensic Identification Unit buildings co-located at Troop HQs and the HQ buildings are receiving electrical, communications, and some building renovations to better utilize the space made by the vacating FIU BCI members into their new building. All told, these changes should make these buildings better by being more efficient and allow for the future growth and expansion as needed. It should also make my life easier, my customers life easier with a faster network architecture using fiber in the building!
