The replacement for the current TMR has been announced and briefings of volunteer sector groups has started. According to those who have heard the briefing the system is definitely a Bell system based on the current network sites, but with quite a few additional sites (around 20 more than at present) so that coverage will be significantly improved. The system will most likely be on 700 MHz but that aspect was not part of the announcement, but it was stated that it will be a P25 system, so that everything will be digital, and of course we can expect that there will be more encryption than there is at present. This new system will commence operation in May 2015 and there is a long contract between the provincial govt and Bell. There will not be a clean cutover between systems, so that it is expected that both the old and new will be in operation during a transition period. It is certain that the volunteer organizations and the provincial govt itself will for sure go over to the new system, but it will be up to the other users what they end up doing, for example Halifax RM and the feds...... as they are outside the provincial govt contract with Bell (at least as far as I know).

I also mentioned this on ScanMaritimes but I am finding that I cannot log into it now.... anyone else having the same trouble??

I was able to log into SM, but I had some issues when they first switched over, I think I reset my password assuming I forgot it, but maybe it was actually lost in the system. Have you been on since the new version forum launched?

As a follow up to the original post. I have it on good authority from someone "in the know" that this new TMR System for Nova Scotia will absolutely be on the 700 mhz band and will be entirely P25 Digital. Even further to that...it will be a restricted system for ONLY Emergency and Govt. Services. Commercial users will not be allowed on the new system. What happens to them? I dont know but I assume the analog 800 mhz will be maintained to some respect for the countless number of commercial users already using it.

Yeah, you'll more than likely see Bell maintain the current 800 MHz system for commercial users in populated areas, and probably totally abandon it in the rest of the province.

So with this new trunking system that will be happening in the near future, can anyone tell me what would be a great digital scanner for me to purchase?
I've been researching them and narrowed them down too three, GRE PSR-600, Uniden Home Patrol-1, or RS Pro-197, any other suggestions?
