I'm trying to install the latest version of TTD (v63) on Ubuntu 12.04 but when I open the TwoToneDetect63Pi.pyc file it says "There is no application installed for Python bytecode files." When searching for a program to open it, nothing appears in the list. I have thought about trying to run TTD in Wine, but would rather not. So, what steps do I need to take?

It sounds like you need to go into the command line and execute it from there using the "python TwoToneDetect63Pi.pyc" command in the TTD folder. Take a look at this post compiling - How to run a .pyc (compiled python) file? - Ask Ubuntu . Essentially you cannot run the .pyc file from the gui. You might be able to create a shell script that could be launched pretty easily. Be ready to install some dependencies for python and make sure you don't copy your config file from the old one over since things will probably be different. Good luck on that. Sounds interesting if you can get it to go.

BTW, what type of computer is it? If you look on the outside of the case can you find a Windows Certificate of Authenticity? If you can then you just need to find recovery disks for that type of computer and restore it. If it was a homebuilt machine it likely wont have one. It could be easier to just look around for a copy of Windows XP on ebay or the like. Probably not worth it but you could go down that route if you wanted.

i would love to set this up but i am unsure on how to do it. can anyone help me?

thanks,
matt

The help page Andy linked it pretty complete. If your email has 2-factor authentication (a system where they will either text you a number or you use an app on a smart phone to generate a code) then applications that that don't do text or app code entry use these special passwords. Follow that link and it should tell you where to click. If you dont have 2-factor turned on then you need to just log in via a browser and "check your email" from that computer.

Have you considered making a specific gmail just for paging things out?

First of all, thanks for making such an amazing program. It has been a huge asset for many of the EMA organizations in our county.

We have had TTD running smoothly on a Windows XP machine for a long time now, but the computer finally died. We have had another computer donated to our Rescue Squad with no operating system. Rather than spending our resources on purchasing a copy of Windows, I have been trying to get TTD running on Ubuntu, but with little success. Can you release a detailed tutorial on setting it up for Ubuntu?

I'm trying to install the latest version of TTD (v63) on Ubuntu 12.04 but when I open the TwoToneDetect63Pi.pyc file it says "There is no application installed for Python bytecode files." When searching for a program to open it, nothing appears in the list. I have thought about trying to run TTD in Wine, but would rather not. So, what steps do I need to take?

If I can get the program installed and running, I am confident in the setup, it's Linux/Ubuntu I am unfamiliar with.

Thanks for any advice or assistance, and sorry for the verbose post.

Try running it from the linux command line:

$ python TwoToneDetect63Pi.pyc

See if that gives you different results.

In the Gmail settings go to Forwarding and POP/IMAP Item 1. Status: POP is enabled for all mail that has arrived. Item 2. "Keep Gmail's copy in the Inbox" . Item 3. Status: IMAP is enabled ( in most set ups you will find this to be disabled ) But for the TTD to work you need it to be enabled to give you unlimited messaging. You also need to set the following:
Auto-Expunge on - Immediately update the server. (default).
Folder Size Limits: Do not limit the number of messages in an IMAP folder (default).

Why not install XP, using the license from the deceased computer?

Go to your Gmail Settings: FORWARDING AND POP / IMAP

Item 1. Status: POP is enabled.
Item 2. "Keep Gmail's copy in the inbox"
Item 3. Status: IMAP is enabled
Auto-Expunge on

Folder Size Limits: Do not limit the number of messages in an IMAP folder (default).

Then SAVE CHANGES

Hey all, thanks for the great suggestions on the command line. I will give that a try for sure.

Its just an old Dell computer, and it does have a CoA sticker on the side. The problem I ran into was I don't have any of the disks for it. The only OEM windows disk I could find to download online was for XP SP3, and the key isn't working on that. That's a great suggestion about trying to find an older disk on eBay, but this Linux thing has challenged me and now I must conquer it. (with y'all's help)

Thanks for this great program!
Just wondering if there is a way to have TTD automatically select the proper input (and output) channel on startup (line in)? I now have to manually select the correct input each time after a powerfailure (UPS only works so long to keep machine running....) or reboot.

I Think what could be the problem is he may have a email address that is not correct if he has one or more addresses wrong it will lock up the sysytem and it will not send the email messages the same goes for if he was to use phone numbers if he was to enter a wrong phone number it will lock up the system and none of the out numbers in the list would get the message because of that one number was wrong or email was wrong, so he needs to be sure that all emails are good ones before using them.
Also Verify IMAP is Enabled and set to Unlimit File Size.

R_Rabbit, sorry for the delay. No you do not need to select each time. There is a config file that will save which input / output was selected. This config only saves the index so if audio devices are added and removed constantly then you may have an issue. This would only happen with USB sound devices though that might not be connected on boot. Give it a try and I bet you will be fine.

Can you post the contents of the log.txt file from the TTD directory?

When you downloaded the program, you extracted the zipped files to a directory. In that directory, you will find log.txt. Do a search for TwoToneDetect and it should get you to the directory.
