Hello everyone in Utah scanner land!

I've put together a wiki page for identified and confirmed radio ID ranges on the new UCA P25 system! That way, when you're trying to track down who owns/uses a particular talkgroup, you can check the RIDs against this list and see if it's the agency you thought it was!

Because this is more or less stuff that affiliated with what I'm monitoring, it's in desperate need of contributions from all over the state. Even if your local sites are encrypted, you can still help contribute, especially if you have some SDRs and use tools like SDR Trunk or DSDPlus which decode radio aliases along with RIDs!

This page is for radio ID ranges only - not individual radio IDs. Please keep that in mind!

If you don't feel comfortable editing Mediawiki markdown, you're welcome to message me to add anything you have confirmed to the list.

Link to Wiki page:
Utah Communications Authority P25 RID/UID Reference

If you have any questions, let me know - thanks!

PS: Shout out to gldavis for additional RID info!

Do you know IF or HOW one can see the RID on a SDS200 scanner?

SDS200 - Menu-Display Options-Customize-Set Detail Trunk-down to below Talkgroup ID to where you have 2 columns of options. Select one of them and then select Unit ID. Back out of menu.

I finally got "it". Been doing this so long that I couldn't see what was right in front of my face. I was searching for RID when on SDS200 it is UID & my software (Proscan) was not set to record the UID# on the record screen so the field was always blank. Now all is well. Thanks for your help!

Good going! Yes it is a learning curve figuring out the capabilities of this complex device. I have two lines set on my display. Right below the TG #(left side of the screen) I placed the UID#, and on the right side I placed the UID name. I changed the color of these as well, so they stand out better.

That's funny. It will cost way to much to encrypt. L3-Harris is charging $500 per unit for encryption. And they do not allow encryption of patched channels. That said, encryption has been around for decades and is nothing new or scary. (yes Big Brother is listening, but a few are listening back:cool:)

Well, I am operating lawfully under Utah Title 77 Chapter 23a. It's not my fault they chose a Harris system which doesn't obfuscate their UID/RID aliases.

And most of what I've personally found is via roughly 60% control channel data (which wouldn't be encrypted anyway), 30% guesswork, and 10% actual audio monitoring. Sooo...with the exception of that 10%, encryption wouldn't really matter anyway. Just saying.

Mike, any reason you're using Unitrunker instead of SDRTrunk?

I'm not answering for Mike, but I use Unitrunker because I'm use to it. Been using it for years, so I'm comfortable with it. I did get a new Laptop and several (8) RTL-SDR's, and set them up for SDRTrunk. (that was an effort). I have yet to look at what it got. (witch reminds me, I need to look:))

But, Unitrunker does not follow P25 Phase II voice. Are you just using Unitrunker to gather data about the sites, etc.?

I use Unitrunker to search for new and hidden talk groups.
A mobile setup allows me to search out new sites.

I was running version 1.0.33.6 from 2017.
Hey, as long as it works, why change it?
Originally, I had it running on a (ODYS WinTab).
Using Windows 8.5 on a tiny 8 inch wide screen.
I liked it because it could be powered by 9VDC or Micro USB.
So I could take it traveling and power it from a vehicle.

Well, the WinTab bit the dust and so did it's successor the Acer Aspire.

So I bought a 10" wide Ematic that charges with 5VDC.
I tried to run my original Unitrunker 1.0.33.6
Frustrated. I downloaded a new version 2.1.0.108 (2024).
It works well and for the first time, it has voice (which I mute)
But all of the site information from Hill AFB, Idaho, Oregon, & Wyoming is on the old version.

I read this about SDR Trunk:
If I'm not mistaken, you can use one dongle on a Phase I system,
but with Phase II, you have to use two dongles.
Right now, I have 1 dongle, 1 antenna.
I will need to double that for SDR Trunk.

You can monitor P25 Phase II in SDRTrunk with one dongle. All depends on the bandwidth spread of all of the channels/frequencies of the system you're monitoring. I use two Airspy R2 SDRs (each with 10MHz bandwidth). 73s

This is my portable/mobile set-up. 7 RTL-SDR. All battery powered. I use a tripod with a vertical Omni that has 9 Dbi gain at 710 Mhz.
