• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hi All,

Decided to break down and get a G5 with my stimulis money this year and I don't regret doing it one bit! I like it alot I live in the Southern half of Grant County Wisconsin and I can get Wisconsin Iowa and Illinois no trouble at all. I monitor Wiscom off of Kieler, Iowa Statewide off of the Dubuque site, and Starcom 21 off of the Galena site, doesn't come in the best from where I'm at but it works. Hoping sometime soon they come out with a multi site scan system for the G5 to liven the fun up a bit! But in my mind its a small price to pay for getting to do simulcast. I use it on DANECOM every once and a while and the Iowa site near me is Simulcast too.

Sgt,
Glad you like your G5. I love mine. Initially bought a VHF version G5 for the system near my office in Northern Va, and loved it so much, I bought a second one in UHF for my home. Good luck with yours--I find myself using them more than my scanners, when I'm mobile.

I am new to the G5 as well, and I absolutely love it to. I actually got rid of my SDS100, because It didn’t pick up worth a daarn in my car, even with a external antenna. With my G5, stuck antenna , it picks up perfectly everywhere I drive around in my area. Couldn’t be happier, The build quality is top-notch I’m sure they don’t feel like it, and I get 10+ hours out of the battery!!

My go to unit is my G5. While my scanners can do more, I mostly count on unication for a reliable coverage . Listening to the same local P25 the SDS 200 miss majorities of beginnings of each call while G5 never misses a beat. Professional grade radio VS Consumer grade scanner.

Programing the unication pagers requires intuition, interest and attention to details. Besides your dealer support, There are plenty of online tutorials available.
