I never owned the 396T, but picked up the XT this summer and I've never been able to pick up the (113) 700mhz sites very well. Even though I have 5 bars my ERR is 50+ and once its more than 20 its impossible to understand anything; and the XT will automatically go to the 800mhz site with less reception over the 700mhz with all 5 bars!!!!! Funny thing is that the morris 800mhz site 30 miles away from my house comes in perfectly clear with 1-2 bars. Another thing I noticed is the Plainfield talkgroups only come in on the 700mhz site so I can hear all the traffic on the interstate but nothing in Plainfield.

My settings are P25 Level 150, P25 mode 09, LP filter OFF. I made a road trip down the whole state on 57 this past weekend and every 800mhz site that had reception came in crystal clear.

Uniden needs to do something about the 700mhz because its 10-1 unless you're 1 mile from the site. (At least for me it is)

Plainfield is very hard to receive unless your near that new site on the water tower just west of PLFd ...I live near Provena Hospital in Joliet and have a awful time with T113 because its in a hole on RT53...When you go to Lockport T113 is great...Here at my location i hear T102, T101 perfect and the best is T125-Grundy Co....I L/O T113 till i go east...PLFD is only on T101, T126-Kane Co and T113....I have a 996XT and a RS197 digital base and use the RS groundplane 25-1.3mgz antenna with 9913 coax and they work great, one is on a tower and one is in the attic...Its wierd the one in the attic is better than the one on the tower....I also have the 396XT, its better than the GRE500 on digital....

When I am near the tower on RT30 and Wolf Rd in Mokena I can pick up the 700mhz just fine, but when I'm at my house near Laraway and Schoolhouse Rd in New Lenox the 700mhz quits working right, not just Plainfield. So theres just got to be something with the 700mhz decoding.

That is T113D-Mokena, then you enter a "dead spot" near your home...Then try changing to T102-CCSouth or T101-Lisle, if they don't work a antenna or beam for 700mgz is in need...I find spots in the house where i can set the 396XT using the RS800 rubber duck (a must)....Starcom is a game of inches, move the scanner a inch and the signal is back, very critical....I hear that tower very well when im at Lowes on RT30 even in the store.....

My only suggestion is to open the Squelch to about a 2 setting. I monitor Site 102 this way from the Midway Airport area.

Ron is right about the inches deal, I finally found a spot on my desk where I receive the 700mhz T113 site just fine; but I am not hearing the JJC security at all.

That's because JJC went to Joliet's Trunked System.

ilgrant is correct, JJC quit Starcom and has a TG now on Joliet's trunk system=24592....They get alot less dropouts now....
