(hopefully this is for new users in general and not just for new users to scanners)

I am interested in shortwave radio and DXing in general. So far I only have a Grundig FR200 I got for christmas years ago and am looking to upgrade to a more sophisticated receiver with SSB. I am also currently teaching myself about antennas and "antenna theory."

Ground wave , resistance , ohms , radio propagation , antenna coverage , coax..ect.

Radio hobbiest is a great thing. I know what the U.S Army taught me..and then a little more. If you are not going to use some of the topics / pracices..then I would not worry about it. If you read or research something..no sense in geting to involved if you don't understand or comprehend ; It will seem like greek.

If you have a CB or HAM radio club near you ..they could help you with the basics. Atmosphere conditions and radio bradcasting , propagation of radio bands / freqs. Basic antenna tuning ( like mobile CB antennas ) ..and some other stuff.

You have to keep up with some of the stuff, or it will slowly fade away.
