Not knowing much about the 536, are you running a "wildcard"? Does the radio mute received encryption? I only ask since there was once another person here who claimed the IWN system was totally without traffic...His scanner was muting encrypted signals. He heard no traffic in a 2 day period whereas Pro96Com on my end noted 2500+ transmissions, 96% of them encrypted voice (the rest data).

I just verified this with my 436HP and the PSR800 on IWN Seattle. The discovery feature on the Uniden doesn't track encrypted hits.

There's no wildcard setting like the GRE scanners but the x36HP scanners do require "ID SEARCH" to be on to track new hits properly.

In order for that to work I had to put DOJIWIN in a favorite list then load the favorite list and unload the full database. After that I was able to turn ID SEARCH on. You can't turn ID SEARCH on while using the full database, only in favorite lists which I hate using. Yes it does mute encrypted hits.

Then someone needs to change the database for DOJIWIN where the "MODE" is listed as "D" and change it to "E" to show that they are encrypted and only leave the WSP ones as "D". That would solve a lot of confusion.

Well, I know of 400+ talkgroups on the IWN system, of which maybe 15 are unencrypted (WSP). Don't use the database here; build your own list using a control channel decoding program i.e. Pro96Com.

That would be nice but the Pro96Com does not support either the BCD436HP or the BCD536HP. I don't think it supports the HP1 or HP2 either. The whole object of these models was to eliminate the need for Pro96Com and rely entirely on the RR Database that I update weekly via Uniden.

Favorites Lists are the key to getting optimum performance from your 536. You can set it up exactly the way you want, with nothing more and nothing less than you need. Running it off the full database is like pulling your Farrari around with a pickup truck. It's a waste of a very good scanner.

Umm, no. The whole point of these models was to get total newbs into scanning. Uniden decided to dumb-down their product in order to sell more units.

The XT series was/is a great product line. Too bad Uniden had to go and re-invent the wheel!

I already do that by just setting the service tags I want to listen to, permanently avoiding systems I don't want to listen to and the GPS attachment to automatically change what I listen to as I travel. It doesn't really scan the whole database just what's available for where I am and the tags I set. With favorite lists I would have to manually change the list based on where I am. Why would I want to listen to Koutenay County in Idaho when I am in Adams County. It will automatically add it when I am in Spokane while using the GPS unit along with dropping Adams County when I am in Spokane. So basically its just a Favorite list that evolves as I travel.

Right, or well sort of. You can set up your favorites list for location based scanning, you don't have to manually change them as you travel, where did you get that idea? The database is always going to include a bunch of stuff you're not interested in. That's all stuff it has to chug through on every scan, causing your scan cycle to be unnessesarily long. This means you're missing parts of conversations you needn't miss. If you like to travel with the radio, just create a separate favorites list that includes all the counties you travel through. Make each county a Department, and winnow out all the crap from the database you're not interested in. If you like, change the alpha tags as you see fit so they make more sense. The RR database tags are horrible. Change the location info as you see fit too. The database is full of location inaccuracies. When you're done, enable those counties/departments for location based scanning, plug in your GPS and go. I'd bet money your scanning experience will be much improved over using the full database.
Another great thing you can do with Favorites Lists is assign Quick Keys to all your Favorite Lists, Systems, Departments and Sites, and also Number Tags to certain channels or talk groups. This way you can enable/disable things easily on the fly. And if the scanner blows by some interesting conversation, you can stop and quickly navigate back to that channel to hear what's going on.
Basically the database is like a set of training wheels. It's there as Nick said to draw in the new scanner user, but the x36 radios have so much more to offer to anyone who takes the time to program them properly. Favorites Lists are the key to this.

436-536 mutes encrypted talkgroups. I don't remember if it records the talkgroup and radio Id or skips it as well.

There is no difference in scan time. At least here. I set the service tags for Fire dispatch, Interop and Law Dispatch, Tac and Talk. I created a favorite list with only those tags for Grant, Adams and State Patrol except Dist 1 that I have on Perm Avoid. I watched the cycle time and there is no difference. I then unloaded the Favorite list, loaded the Full Database, typed in my ZIP and start scanning. ProScan shows the exact same frequencies that are in the favorite list and no others in the database. The only deffernce is that I have Common Statewide Law, DOJIWIN and DOD on Perm Avoid when I run the full Database.

Note: The reason I have Dist 1 on Perm Avoid is that several Freq are the same as Dist 3 but without the tone. So instead of displaying Yakima Dispatch it displays Tacoma Pierce County West because its first in the database and it has no subaudible tone.

Note 2: I also have all the Nationwide systems turned off on the database.

Yup this works great, picked up older Garmin eTrax for under $40, plug it in and go and for local stuff basically hit quick keys to isolate or restrict to certain geographical areas when don't want the overlapping traffic

Are you hearing data on any of the control channel frequencies you're tracking?

If you were listening to the Scoop site yesterday it was an orphan for some reason.

WSP finally switches to digital on 154.755 P25 NAC D70. Change occurred sometime this week. Really good reception from my location just across the border in BC.
