This is slightly off-topic, but I just wanted to post a link to my new website with my railroad photography on it now that it is fully online.

http://www.jakemensel.com/

The photos are all taken in the last few years in several areas of the US, and of course it will be updated as I take more.

Nice work Jake! Love the flow of your website. One minor critique though...I would like to know more about those shut down industries, that you have taken images of...when did they last operate? Perhaps you might know why they closed down? Outsourcing victim??

I haven't yet foudn a good way of displaying the historical information about those industries while keeping them on one index page. I'm thinking about adding a short history on the first caption of the first photo in the series. At any rate..

Dan River Fabrics - Built in 1882 and closed in 1998 due to outsourcing to India.

American Tobacco - Built in the 1950's and closed in the mid 1990's. Demolished as of this date.

Pine Hall Brick - Built in the early 1900's, closed in thr 1960's. Replaced by a new plant closer to the clay pits and town of Madison.

I don't have any information on the other two locations.

Interesting places... I love the old industrial stuff. Especially the rail served stuff, which is disappearing rapidly. I shot a bunch of stuff around the few remaining SP street rail lines in downtown L.A. a while back.

You could always extend the white border on a shot down and add the text into the actual photo file. Or... You could add an image map 'info' click to open a new window with a controlled smaller size that has the text on it. Then you'd retain the clean gallery style of the main page.

Awesome pics ! I like the Nature ones, except for the cow with its tongue up its nose. That old house must be well over 100 years old, having a fireplace on the second floor. The black and whites really capture much more emotion than any color shot ever could.
