Well I retired a Motorola Specta radio over the weekend and replaced it with a new digital P25 XTL5000 vhf radio and VRS. I strip the truck, seats carpet and center console ect so I can run wires and place them in a safe area so they do not get pinched.I It is alot of work but worth it in thed end. Here are some pictures of the work and finished product. Ya I have a lot of comm in my turck. All wires are wrapped in protective covering.

Sorry they are out of order but, you get the idea. Also not shown is the 800mhz radio control head above and below the rear view mirror.

OMG, is that an install or a tear-out, you've got a lot of work ahead of you and by the looks of it you've really got some dedication...... good luck and can't wait to see (or not :) ) the final completion.

Very nice setup!. It's amazing that you can basically gut the inside of the vehicle, install the radios and put everything back in correctly. With my luck I remove one screw and loose it. Your results are great after all is said and done. Good work.

Very professional setup. This is what the police and fire truck installers do. They remove everything and do it right. Good job.

Like to see this, I used to instruct new installers in a M shop. People wonder why you take a car apart to do this, but in the end it is actually faster, safer and better quality.

Gentelmen I thank you all for the kind words. OK here are the antenna shots. First is the 800mgz inside the glass shot and outside. The antenna cable is ran in the factory wire loom going to the door so you see nothing. The roof, black hockypuck is for my Lowrance GPS chart plotter for offroad and on road use,to the rear of that is the VRS and then the VHF antenna. Front of the truck passenger side is my lowband and the driver side is the ham antenna.

How well does that 800MHz glass mount antenna perform?. Never had any luck with any of them through the glass types. Makes it a nice install, but if the performance sucks it's not worth it.

Many of the glass mount installs are done by those that don't know any better. Most of the factory tinted windows today won't support glass mount antennas. The metal flakes used to make the tint don't allow the antenna to function. This is why they say they don't work.

While this may be true, if he is getting the results he desires with that antenna then it's working just fine for him. That's not to say he might not get better results with a different type...

Antenna works great. I do not transmit on it, And being so close to the repeaters around me and the mountains the sound is crystal clear.
