New York Scanner Board!!!!

Hello everyone..

I am, or was, a member of Fordyce.org. With the recent misfortunate of the deletion of Fordyce.org, I've created my own web site in volunteer to provide accurate information for MOST of the New York area. The posting of this thread is in no intention to advertise on RR.com, but to notify people in a high traffic area in which this post will create active users in regards to the creation of this new web site. The web site offers accurate information for the following counties/cities, and in turn will grow and support more areas over the months in which it is active.

The following areas are supported/will be supported with this new board:

New York City -
- Brooklyn
- Manhattan
- Staten Island

Counties - (Supported on activation of board)
- Kings
- Nassau
- Queens
- Suffolk
- Westchester

Counties - (Supported later on)
- (Will be determined later on after the creation of the web site)

EDIT - I'll also add that the boards will soon offer both online scanner support, (12 hours)and Limited Phone Support! I'm not sure how fast the phone support will get up, but I know I can do online support very quickly!

yeah I was the NYC Moderator of that board...it was running early that morning then by the afternoon it was gone...I hope they catch the coward that did this...as for your board, I'll look into it, possibly for a mod position...my e-mail is talexander03@verizon.net

What's wrong with www.n2nov.net as a database for now?

Listen, guys...with the dust still not settled after the shut down of Mr. F's board, what is this mad dash to create replacement boards for each little piece of his old territory? Is it the glory of being "the first" to come online? Does radio information really change that fast in the NY Metro area that we can't get by without a board for a week (or maybe more, as needed) until someone (or a group) can come up with a suitable replacement? Perhaps one good Board that can cover that same counties that make up Scanner Master? I mean really now...I'm beginning to understand how Mr. F must have felt in the last hours on Sept. 28th. This is nuts...I'm counting up to five replacement boards for the NYC area already. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Well the reason I posted this information was to help people get accurate information for New York - I have yet to find another NY board, and my board wasn't just created - it was up for a while being maintainanced. It was actually for Long Island and PARTS of NYC. Then I saw that Fordyce.org was gone so I decided to make it all NYC and get the board up quicker then planned. Basically I didn't go creating a forum right after MR. F's board was deleted, in the idea to claim all his territories before anyone else, but it was already created before the deletion of the other board. I just decided to get it up faster!

If you visit http://n2nov.net/ you'll notice that there is a new link at the top of the page. Mr. Hargrove has seen fit to add a forum for NYC and other area's.

His site has long been THE REFERENCE for NYC information, I think it should also be the place to talk about the happenings and changes.

If you would like to be a moderator, please register first.

Also - There are too many requests to moderator positions, therefore, if your expecting an e-mail from me - please don't be disappointed if you do not receive one. I am not in any hurry to e-mail anyone - if you want to be a moderator - there are two things you must do -

1) Register to the boards

2) E-mail ME!

I am excepting only 10 moderator (Must be a previous moderator on Fordyce) to kick off the beginning of the boards use. After I have picked those 10, then all others must work to become a moderator. Being a previous member on fordyce, I remembered to well thought out rule - you must be a contributing member for at least a total of six months. If not, then you will not become a moderator.

With that said, please e-mail me if you would like to become a moderator

Again - thank you Lindsay and the rest of the administration of this board for allowing and not deleting this thread.

Your take on my message above is a bit off. I have no objection to someone exercising their "right" to start something new. What I am expressing above is a sense of frustration toward the fact that what I was once able to do on one board - learn about issues regarding scanning in New York City, it's northern suburbs, Long Island, and northern New Jersey State - will now take at least three boards to do. If that's carrying the torch for Jim Fordyce, so be it. I'll have you know that I've joined most of the now SEVEN (up from the five counted in my last message), many overlapping, message boards that have sprung up like weeds since the demise of the LI&NESR board. I am expecting most of them to fail. All I am looking to do is to simplify my "Favorites" drop down menu. From the perspective of an end user, I don't have all day to chase info around. I am not against giving something an "American Try," to use your words; I am against having my time wasted when, through a little cooperation, some of these "folks interested in the hobby" could coordinate who takes what so that perhaps in the end one Board can become the "go to" location for Long Island topics, one can specialize in the City of New York, one covers the State of New Jersey, one for...

Nothing for Long Island, for one thing, Dave. (Long Island is not New York City.)

Unless you have it hidden somewhere. The only "Long Island" I could find on the site was the LIRR frequencies.

My intent for creating the message board on www.n2nov.net was to fill a void for a NYC specific area. I am NOT trying to replace all that the Fordyce site was. Larry Morin has already taken on the NJ counties (and quite well, I might add). It was Larry who sent an email to me last weekend to notify me that the Fordyce site was gone. Larry asked if I would take on the NYC stuff. After some conversation last Monday and weighing the options, I proceeded to install and build the NYC boards on my server on Wednesday. The announcement was made on the NYDXA SWL & Scanner Net that evening. Whatever it becomes is a reflection of those who participate (just like the Net which has been running since March 1992).

I suggest that we each concentrate on our own areas (those that we are SUPPOSED to know well). Let's work together to share the wealth of information and understanding. Those who have called me at my office or home over the past 13 years for help know that this is how I operate. No one of us knows everything.

Except for some trunking info, I have no NYC/LI coverage on the NF2G Scannist Pages. I had some plans to begin working on that, but Chuck has done a superb job with that area and I see no need to reinvent the wheel. I will continue covering upstate (albeit without the message boards).

Maybe message boards will follow. I'm watching the existing ones to find something suitably low-maintenance.

Hey Dave, I was wondering what ever happened to the Vermont frequencies you used to have a while ago. I thought that was a good resource. Have you ever thought about putting that back up? I could keep Rutland, Addison and Chittenden counties up to date.

I have a hard time keeping up with 55 New York counties and decided I should just focus on them. Unfortunately, there aren't any good Vermont scanner sites (that I've found anyway). It seems like virgin territory if someone wanted to do the work.
