I recently confirmed hearing some Newark Airport Customer Service and inter-airport passenger transportation units on the following frequencies: 460.700, 460.800, and 151.655. Several major airlines are licensed to the 460 MHz frequencies mentioned above. Note, the 151.655 frequency must also be a repeater because I can hear it nice and strong from Union County. Give them a listen and if anyone has more to add to this list, please feel free to post.

newark airport security

Thanks Jaymatt. I did a little monitoring yesterday evening of the frequencies you listed and in addition to what I posted earlier, this is what I heard: On 460.725 it sounded like comms between the airplane mechanics and the airlines. I couldn't determine which airline it was. Could've been any one. On 460.650 and 460.825, I heard more airport ground operations. Finally, on 460.875, I monitored the baggage/luggage cart comms. They kept giving orders as to where to take certain packages and luggage. This may help narrow down what Newark Airport uses each of these frequencies specifically for.

I was also wondering what frequency the Newark Airport security personnel uses? Do all of them just use the PAPD EDACS system or do they have an additional special radio frequency used just in Newark Airport?

Yes the security uses the EDACS system but you might also try 453.6500 pl 136.5 which is the old Newark Airport pollice and 470.6125 PL 167.9 which is the old Newark Airport Operations channel. These frequencies might become active when the trunk system goes down.

I have no idea what "security" you are referring to, but I can assure you that the PAPD EDACS is police only. There are many private security companies that work on the airport but they operate on their own frequencies.

The Port Authority provides the security for the airport itself, there are other security companies that work in the airport. I have no idea what frequencies they use, but you might want to try searching betwen 461-]469 that's where the private security companies come in. The TSA is also there but they are digital.

Are you guys monitoring the airport from where you live or do you have a location for 'spotting' or just listening?

I ask cause I'm visiting the area in a couple of months and looking for a good place for plane spotting...I used go to IKEA years ago, is there a better spot?

BTW, I'm originally from Bergen Co.

The frequencies I've monitored in the 460 MHz range, I have monitored from home here in Union County. They don't have a really strong signal from here, but they can be heard. By security, I meant any operations that are NOT considered ground maintanance or customer service. Security and police would obviously work together in the event of a problem or major incident anyway.
