I like using Airnav as an Airport reference;
however I do not see 128.8 listed as a KEWR or a New York Tracon (N90) frequency

New York Tracon (N90)

MasterPro,
Being 5 miles away, you should be able to hear just about everything.
I don't know what RR has, and Airnav.com is good, but they don't list everything, either.
I can send you my list, but I don't think it's appropriate to put it in a post. If you're interested, contact me in a Private message, and I'll send you my e-mail address.

Not suprising, TBH.

Your proximity to the airport isn't as good as you think it is. Their entire system talks to people up & away from the tower. You're on the ground. Even with real good hardware and favorable conditions, I have trouble getting my local airport tower more than 3 miles away.

If you can get your antenna up and away from the earth, you will hear a significant improvement hearing the tower. You will almost always hear the airplanes better, as if you can see them - you can hear them. They fly over our property on one approach, and if they key up it's like they're in the room with me - never hear the tower responses at home.
