At EWR this morning flying for work, and noticed something interesting. The TSA Supervisor was carrying both a Johnson-Kenwood VP600 (P25) and a Motorola XPR7550e (DMR / turned off). This was Terminal C, so I guess it's possible the XPR7550e was for United Airlines' system. However, there's been confirmed reports elsewhere in the country, mostly Arizona, of TSA and CBP using a couple TRBO frequencies. And there was the couple DMR hits around 410MHz the last time POTUS/AF1 arrived at EWR.

Just thought it was interesting. Might be worth listening for.

CBP does not use DMR unless the radios are given to them by Terminal Operations.

Nor does TSA, or at least that's what I was always told. Some users of a federal listening group I belong to have seen CBP using DMR gear at the Nogales and Douglas crossings in Arizona, by TSA in LA. In their case it may be countersurveillence, granted. In this case, again, possible that it was a United radio she was carrying. Just found it interesting.

Yeah the last time I went though EWR, I was walking through the exit and the TSA employee (sorry I can’t call them “Officers”) had a Model 1 XTS5000 and an XPR7550 on his podium.

Just for added info, as of a month ago at KSFB Sanford-Orlando, I’ve seen TSA employees(can’t call them officers or agents either) with a APX4000 on the podium. I did a double take for a moment thinking they too were running single band DMR Motorola XPR portables but after looking again, I could see the screen showing APX firmware and the badge showing the APX 4000 model insignia designation. The 4000 and XPR 7550 are very closely resembled but there are slight features that can give it away

At KMCO Orlando International, I’ve seen TSA have BK radios for their ops. Can’t recall what KPBI had for theirs.

Nah, I do this for a living. It was 100% an XPR7550. And it's now confirmed to have been a United radio. Apparently United's EWR ops center got tired of the wait time for their phone calls for assistance to filter through to various units. I'm told PAPD now also has access to United's system.

I've been working on that for a long time, but there's still something we're missing about how they have the two sites set-up at EWR.

They may have a Radio to talk to airport ops but mainly will have BK Radios with Full Time AES256..oh well who wants to listen to them?
