My suggestion, J, is to find a club in your area that holds amateur radio classes. You will get invaluable advice on how to become a HAM (singular) radio operator

Gordon West's books are by far the best, especially when you add the CD to it

CB? Wouldn't waste the time. Get to studying for your Ham license. Whatever you do, don't get on the Ham radio and start talking about lot lizards and smokey bears
