To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So new to this., not sure how far I ever want to dive in,. but I am looking to program my BaoFeng radio with the following list of frequencies. These are the frequencies that come pre-loaded on offroad race radios. Could someone help to point me to how to do this? I started to 'try' and I didn't know where to even find the port number to type into CHIRP. Hoping this is pretty basic to accomplish and can be done with my limited knowledge.

I have a windows based computer, BaoFeng UV-82HP radio, computer to radio cable, and a frequency list on excel.

Since when is 462MHz microwave?

The UV-82 will program with all of the listed frequencies with no issues, other than the questionable legality of transmitting on the "default race radio" frequencies.

There are online help files for CHIRP.
There's no way you are just going to "dump" everything into CHIRP or the radio. You will have to get CHIRP to connect to the radio (there may be USB or cable issues) and then you will have to manually enter all the data into a file on CHIRP, and then save the file (preferably) and then upload the file to the radio from CHIRP.
The only shortcut would be to find someone else who has already done this, with the same radio, and ask them to load their file into your radio.
And of course, program them all as RECEIVE ONLY unless both you and the radio are properly licensed for frequencies, if you are unaware of those issues.

I am looking to talk and not not just receive only. I understand the list I show above shows frequencies in the 462 range as well. I will just be focusing on the first few as that is what my family transmits on in the desert. I am just looking to program them in on both mine and my daughters radios.

You would only be allowed to talk on the GMRS frequencies and that requires a license. You can't talk on most of the other frequencies without permission and can't talk on the weather frequencies at all.

The 462 frequencies that are GMRS require a license. Some GMRS frequencies are shared with FRS but that radio does not meet FRS, GMRS, or MURS rules. I see others in the 150s that require a license also.

I am looking into the rules and regulations as well as licensing. In terms of my initial question regarding what to fill out on CHIRP., could someone help me with that?

That radio is pretty much a receiver for you. The way it stands right now, you can't legally talk on any of the frequencies it's capable of handling. If that's the case, you're better off with a scanner.

It's all good,. was just trying to get some help. Rugged radios sells their radios with these frequencies preprogrammed into their radios., without paying for the name brand I was looking to program the frequencies into my Baofeng. and I KNOW there is a license needed for transmitting. Where I am at in the desert we are the only ones around and do not get any chatter on the channels in which we communicate. It is a method the offroad industry has adopted and there has been a overlook as to who can use them. Everyone seems to play stupid. LIKE ME,.

You’re very likely not to find much help here when asking how to do stuff illegally. Get the proper license with the proper radios then we’ll talk. A lot of places do things illegally and it still doesn’t make it right.

It was easy peasy once I downgraded my drivers via Miklor. Radios are dialed. Thank you for giving me the umph the figure it out. I'm sure if I get into it in term of repeaters I'll be more legit,. until then,. thanks!
