    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello everyone. Im kinda new to other areas of the radio world. Been a long time Cb user and now I want to get further into it. Soon to get my ham license. But I didn't know where to really post this so I'm sorry. My first question is, I want to find a radio system that involves a mobile unit and a handheld unit that doesn't require a license to operate for me and my dad when we haul trailers. He won't put a mobile in his truck. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I currently have a a baofeng uv5ra and a Motorola radius m1225.

It sounds like CB is going to be your best bet.
It is license by rule so no pesky paperwork and if you're just travelling in convoy, you shouldn't have any real major issues with range or interference. Anything else involving mobiles will require a license of some sort.

OK thanks I'll look into handheld Cb units for the other truck then and see what I can find these days. As far as getting licensed for ham and other radios, are there any online courses on could take?

MURS requires the use of radios which typically, due to restrictions and limitations, are not available in mobile form factor. Although there was one in the early days of murs sold by radio shack I think. But if it weren't for that desire to have a mobile, would be a good option.

Doing a search on one of the world's premier search engines for "online ham course" turned up many possibilities for you. Check them out because getting your ham license would actually enable you to use the baefeng radio and motorola radius radio that you already have.
