Hi, I've been looking around for more information about this, but I couldn't find it anywhere.
I want to be able to listen to St Louis SLATER radio and I travel to KCMO and want to be able to listen to MARRS radio too.
As far as I've read, the Uniden Bearcat BCD996P2 should be able to do both of these and can be mounted in my RV right? (Is this the mobile I want, or are there cheaper options?)
Any advice on listening to the best channels, would like to listen to more Fire/Rescue than PD, but would also like to be able to scan PD too.

Thanks in advance.

Might want to look at the Whistler WS1095, remote head (nice for mobile mounts) - can decode PII systems.

Awesome, I'll look into it.

That's correct. It's about the size of a CB. Great scanner and worth every penny!

Good luck!

Any difference between the Uniden and Whistler? I'm not too familiar with Whistler scanners

I don't own any Whistler scanners.

My preference for Uniden is based upon the announcement by Whistler that they were abandoning their scanner development of new scanners.

I think they are getting out of the scanner business, but that's my opinion.

Uniden has released 2 new models recently in the SDS series.

Good luck whatever you choose.

Awesome information. Thank you. I was having trouble finding many whistler scanners, but I did find the 1095 for about $50 cheaper than the Uniden 996P2, so I was just wondering.

Thanks again

You may have already made your decision and gone with the 996P2. Hopefully it works well for you. I bought 3 Uniden 396 and 3 Uniden 996 (two were XT and one was P2) in 2015. Set them up for St. Louis County and they worked decently. As in they were just ok. They would hear about 50% of the talk on SLATER and about 50% of what they heard was hard to understand (garbled). I used them stationery and on the move. I pretty much stopped using them within a year. I am actually going to be selling them on Ebay soon. Two weeks ago I discovered the newer SDS series and bought a SDS100 that I programmed using ARC536PRO. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! This scanner works like the old time analog scanners with the big difference being you do not have to be nearby to pick up the signals. SLATER is broadcast throughout St. Louis County. Yes, these are VERY expensive, but they totally work where the 396 and 996 don't work well when compared. I sat the 396 side by side with the SDS100 and the 396 squelch opened about 15-20% of the time that the SDS was able to pick up calls. Keep in mind, police is encrypted with SLATER so you will not hear police.
