• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Okay - I think this is a case of "cannot see the forest through the trees" situation.

I have a DM-1701 with factory firmware on it - not the OpenGD77.

I have a DMR id - I signed up for one.

This radio is confusing to me - but perhaps I would just need to learn to speak it's language.
What is the best resource for someone who needs things explained like I'm a 5 year old.

The blogs and even the documentation I have for it seem to be confusing as Hell!

I would like to connect it to a local DMR repeater - I do have a list of those, that's not an issue.

I think I need a step-by-step with this thing. Some hand-holding in the beginning. It takes me a while for things to sink in.

So, anyone have a good resource that explains this to me like I'm 5?

Any and all help would be appreciated!

Thanks - Glen

In addition to the frequencies, you also need to know the Color Code and Time Slot of any particular DMR repeater. If you can find an existing DMR codeplug for your radio, load it into your CPS so that you can study the structure. This can often help you to understand how to build your own codeplug for your local area. There are also numerous YouTube videos about DMR.

Thanks for all of the good info. I need a way to have it explained to me like I'm 5 years old.
I'm looking for some hand holding for the following:
1. Connect my DMR to a local DMR repeater and just listen - I don't even know how to do that. It's confusing and frustrating as ****.
2. A good resource (please don't just say 'search Youtube') I don't know what I am searching for. I don't even know where to start.
3. A place/resource that explains (in detail - remember, I'm 5) the CPS-DM1701 interface software. The docs that I found are confusing. They don't make any sense. Bad translation maybe
I am sorry for being difficult, but I have been pissing around with this thing for months.
I cannot make any sense of it - perhaps I need a different approach.

1) Do you have the Programming Software downloaded and install on pc?
2) Do you have the programming cable for the DM-1701 to go between radio and pc?
3) Are you able to read your radio from the software?
