For a noob you have some great equipment to start out on :). The antenna creating is half the fun, to me. I don't know if you're aware of MultiSPK but that's one of the free online decoders that is capable of decoding several types of digital transmissions. CW is easiest by ear & although it is the oldest and least complex codes, it is the most complex for decoders to decode! Stanag you might get headers on transmissions that's about it.

This is my favorite file on utilities decoding, great detail on krypto 5000, et al

We have a separate forum for digital decoding, so I'll keep this just a little OT - MultiPSK is fine, but as you implied in your message, you have to learn how to discern what is decodeable and what isn't. There are several websites with traces as generated by many of the better decoding packages, and that's a start...

Re Krypto - if you have a heart condition, don't look at the price. Consider yourself warned :.>>

I would seriously consider joining the Utility DXers Forum on Yahoo, and take a look at the group's home page - lots of good stuff here...

hfflunski, have you tried 516khz on LW in NAVTEX? If you live within 200 miles of the coast, you'll get a whole bunch of stuff there. Sunken ships, weather warnings, notification of military bombing practice at sea etc.

hfflunki, you're obviously a fellow Linux junkie...have you found any good programs similar to Winradio suite for debian or slack based distros?

well, i dont know about winradio but rf-space sdr-iq has linux software for debian mainly ubuntu distros are best for radio stuff i would run them on your system before buying a sdr
they are cutesdr and quisk
but for your radio computer i would reccomend a 12.1 version of a
ubuntu distro
