newbie needing OPP scanning help

Hi.

I live in saugeen shores, ontario
I saw a previous post about the local police, I pick them up fine for the most part.
I can pickup all the local ambulance, etc.
However I cannot get any OPP stuff at all even when I am about 10 miles from the Glammis repeater.
I am using a BCT-8 scanner and have tried telescoping antenna and the suction cup antenna to the window so far.
I am not sure if I just don't have good enough reception or if I am missing something..
It is a motorola smartnet system?, but most of the frequencies seem to be unique to each repeater ID on the info on the OPP page.

I am a newbie to trunking, read the wiki but still a wee bit lost.
The talkgroups are listed for south bruce, north grey etc on another page in the database.
What would be the easiest way for me to listen in on the OPP (ontario provincial police) near me, in south bruce/north grey/bruce talkgroups?

Should I listen to the trunked part or do I just program in the frequencies of the repeaters near me? Do I program in the blue/red control channels or just the black text voice frequencies?

It sounds to me that the OPP are in a trunked sytem. If this is a Digital system you can't monitor it with the BCT8. If it isn't digital you are in luck. What type of trunked system do they use?

What County is Saugeen Shores in? In the RR database there is a listing of all trunked systems in Ontario.

They are digital , so I would say you are out of luck with the scanner you are using .
Pro 96 from Radio Shack or any of the Bear Cat Digital scanners , would be what you need .

yeah, they are part of the motorola II smartnet system that is province wide and shared with ministry of transporation, police, ministry of health, etc.
i can pickup the local city police but all the provincial is pretty much out on my bct8.
have to save up for a digital one.

It says analog and APCO25 digital for the voice.
I can program the frequencies of the local repeater in and still pickup some talk if its analog, but overall no point in setting up my trunking on the bct8 as i cant hear most of the voice due to being digital

does anyone have a digital scanner on ontario that is streamed online
that would be fun to see what im missing at least :S

i can still pickup county FD and ambulance plus local pd, taxi, airports, etc.
enough to keep me occupied hehe
