Newbie needing some guidance

Hello all,

I'm somewhat new to the scanner world and am looking for general help on how to listen to numerous frequencies in the DM metro area. I have a Uniden BC72XLT. What are some popular channels, etc. that get a lot of activity? How do you listen to NASCAR races?

You will not be able to hear the nascar races until you are At the races.

Thanks for your replys. I've programmed many of the local frequencies within my area (police, fire, weather, etc). What is the typical range I will be able to pick up? My guess is most likely inside the county where I'm located.

I'm already hooked.
