Newbie...Please Help!

I just got a used BC235-XLT and have no clue what I am doing. Read the manual, twice. I have entered the Sedgwick County trunked codes from this website (http://www.trunktracker.com/states/ks.html)

I put them into my first 'Bank' following the directions. It tells me that when I press the TRNK and SCAN button it will scan like crazy (which it does) until it finds the "Data Channel"

Huh?

Anyway, so I guess my question is why it won't find anything. It just keeps searching. Do I have the wrong codes? Should I be on top of my roof instead of in my car. Is it adequate enough to scan from my living room next to a window?

Page 35 forward in the manual...

FIRST, press "TRNK" on the keypad. Response of two beeps. Pick the bank you want to program for trunking and press that number key. (only one system per trunked bank) You can program in the same system in several banks and have one for Fire/EMS ID's (using the ID Lockout feature), one for Police ID's, one wide open for everything.

Start entering the frequencies for the system... (857.46250) and press "E" and then the "up arrow" button and enter the next frequency in the list and so on. After all the frequencies are entered press "SRCH". That is when all the frequencies flash thru. The scanner will find a data channel and away you go.

Once you get the system programmed in, you will want to set up ID Lists for what you are interested in. Just remember, you have to press the "TRNK" to begin the Trunk Tracking mode if you are in scanning conventional mode. _._

Thanks for your help. It appears that my radio is defective. I can't get anything close to a Control Code. I just hope the seller will understand.

Bummer!

Maybe you need to get a REAL radio next time... Just kidding really...
But, The Shack does have the Pro-95 on sale still ($130) and it is a dual trunking scanner that will do both conventional and trunked systems at the same time. Plus it has Text Tags for frequencies and Talk Groups. There are still a few of them out there both on-line and in some of the stores.

That's the only thing that worries me about eBay. Some days are diamonds and some days are stones. So far I have been fairly lucky, on ly bad item out of everything I've bought and the seller finally did refund to me. Just took about 2 months..... (...-.-)

Problem Solved

Thanks all who helped figure this dilema out. I decided to head many user's advice and get the RS Pro95. It was the last one on the shelf and already came pre-programmed w/ all the freqs that I needed.

My only problem now is learning how I WOULD have done it had it been blanked out.

So now my question is after plugging in the Control Channels in, how does one come up with the talk group lists? Also, when scanning it keeps stopping on the CC signal. How would I keep it from doing that?
