First thing you need to do is to communicate your request to your immediate supervisor for approval. They will then have to point you in the right direction as to what kind of equipment is authorized for the system that your company utilizes.
Asking the question here could get you in trouble should you attempt to place an unauthorized radio on a system that your company may or may not own.
I'm glad you brought that up because that completely slipped my mind.
To the original poster.......... He brings up a good point. You need to make sure you are ok'd to have a personal radio set to whatever you guys use, be it simplex (radio to radio), a repeater (amplifier/retransmits at a higher power to acheive greater distance), or if you are on a more advanced system such as a newer Motorola TRBO (Turbo), or a trunking system. Just to give you an example............ I work for a two way radio shop where I live and our company owns/operates several Moto TRBO systems and we lease space out to various customers. On the Moto TRBO systems each radio has an individual ID, AND must be authorized to be on the system. If someone "hacks" a radio and gets it programmed with whatever and it attempts to log onto the system, it can be stunned which means your brand new radio just became a paper weight. The only way to get it "unstunned" is to have the owner of the system that disabled it to reenable it, and feel certain you'll have A LOT of explaining to do if that happens.......... Well you would with me if it happend on any of the systems I help manage / maintain. Motorola can fix that problem also BUT you'll have a lot, if not more, explaining to do to them...... We aren't trying to be hard on ya, just want to make sure you follow the proper steps even with it being something as simple as a taxi service.
