Maybe you should have mentioned it to a database administrator instead. Because as we all know, “moderators” don’t have privileges to change anything in the database, “database administrators” do. ;)

It was mentioned by other members to the database administrator, perhaps not through the proper channels. I never got involved in that charlie foxtrot.

I just wanted people to know that Philadelphia sensitive talk groups were not totally encrypted until 2016. It was partially, part-time, voluntarily, encrypted. As a result of posting sensitive talk groups in the database, those voluntarily and arbitrarily talk groups became totally encrypted in 2016. Let's stick with the facts, If that's okay with everybody, you're always welcome to live in your own world.

FYI - GTR8000 IS a database admin. But, thanks for your assumption ;).

I assumed nothing. You said you asked the moderation staff, of which @GTR8000 is NOT a member of. He’s a member of the database administrators.

Kevin, I can only humbly beg your forgiveness for not having reached your 'Super' and 'Totally Awesome' level. You certainly are a special person to be so patient with me and point out the error of my ways in such a friendly and professional manner. I am ashamed of my word choice. I will aspire to do better and maybe even care. Or not.

You're still harping on something from 6 years ago? You were not "blown off", I gave you an extremely detailed answer in two posts explaining what official RadioReference policy is regarding P25 systems being listed as Phase I or Phase II. Just because you don't happen to agree with that policy hardly means you got blown off.

Oh and "moderation staff" ≠ database admins. Two separate groups, even if some happen to be members of both (I'm just a lowly dbadmin).

The "blown off" comment came from the fact that after your extremely detailed explanation of why the system was being listed as Phase II (even though it was clearly being used as Phase I and every talk group in the table is listed as 'D') you said that was the RR policy and the system will stand as being listed as Phase II. In spite of the confusion this generated among some members. Then, a very short time later the DB listing was changed to reflect reality, i.e Phase I (as it is still listed today.) So yeah, I felt blown off with your original reply as it just did not reflect reality and there was no appreciation to change a confusing policy. Call it what you will. I'm done, at the risk of 'harping'.

The thread that you are looking for regarding the encryption of sensitive talkgroups is here:

The discussion starts around post 240, give or take.

Happy reading!

I remember that long thread, I got a apx7000 in preparation for Philly going Phase 2 which didn't happen but it was also in preparation for, Bucks, Montco and Burco change over to phase 2. It became very apparent, very quickly that P2 "capable" scanners didn't always work great with simulcast distortion.

I like the fact that someone brought to light that even sensitive talk groups listed as encrypted were heard in the clear at times as there was the option for the individual user to turn encryption on and off from the radio.

It wasn't until the posting of sensitive talk groups in the beginning of 2016 that resulted in that optional use of encryption to be removed as radios were reprogrammed to disable the switch, It became permanent.

Thanks for posting that several year long thread, very interesting reading, as it was then. ;)
