Hi all,
I am going to be ordering a Uniden BC246T in a few days, and I want to know what kind of antenna I should get with it. I have searched through the forums and hear a lot of chatter about the Diamond RH77CA antenna along with an 800MHz from radioshack. I just want to know what would be the best choice. I just want to make a good choice on the equipment I get. Thanks all!

I don't know even that! Is it the numbers you put in to the scanner, like the last 4 are the range? Sorry, I have no idea about this stuff. I tried wiki'ing it, but it didn't work.

He means do you listen to frequencies like:

VHF - start with a 1 - ex 123.4567
UHF - start with a 4 or 5 - ex 456.7890 or 567.8900
800MHz - start with an 8 - ex 890.2250
900MHz - start with a 9 - ex 957.2225

Just tell us which ones apply to you and we will be able to better help you. :)

Ok, that helped a ton. There are3 800's and one 100. Would I need a seperate antenna for the 100's or could I pick them up still with an 800MHz antenna? Thanks for all the help.

The aforementioned Diamond will be able to handle both; a dedicated 800 antenna would not do a great job on VHF.

Ok, so you are recommending I stick with the Diamond then?

EDIT: You would even recommend for having it in a car? Like the antenna size is enormous!

Diamond 77 = Huge - top notch performance - strong on lower frequencies
Diamond RH519 = 8" long - thin whip, strong performance overall - not as good on frequencies below 140 mhz.

I believe these are the two best multi-band scanner duck antennas going.
