• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Please keep in mind, while these are excellent receivers, you can not compare them to a scanner as they function very differently. As for ease of programming, there are some who find it easy (following directions found in the forums, YouTube, and other places) and those that struggle, just as you find with scanner programming software. There are many knowledgeable people on the forums that will help.

You can download the PPS in advance from the UNICATION website and take a look at it.

The Unication G pagers will monitor one system and one site at a time, or a number of conventional channels (I forget exact number). The PPS software is definitely lacking as compared to scanner software that I have used.

The programming has gotten considerably easier since the ablility to import from RadioReference has been added to PPS. The good news is that there's several videos on YouTube that will be helpful to you. Aside from that, you should always begin any Unication programming session by consuming two shots of Jack Daniel's. That way, if you make any programming errors, you won't care.

I found it simple enough to program. Not sure what sort of systems you'll monitor. Mine are all P25 trunked systems.

40 year scanner addict, finally had it with the SDS100 (broken USBs, swollen batteries, SMAs busted), figure I had to try something new. Purchased a G5 from an official retailer (like an a-hole), paid $20 for programming. Dumb, they had no clue what they were doing. Within 20-minutes I had the programming where I like it. I immediately purchased a second G5, and I'm looking to purchase a third. I still travel my one SDS100 that works, but I use it less & less.

It is different, you cannot scan various sites, but if you have a small amount of traffic you'd like to scan this really works well, and the G5 reception quality is incredible. I can receive systems I never received before at home.

My suggestion is joining an G5 Facebook group and seeking them second hand. You'll overpay with a dealer, and they'll under deliver on time.

In my experience the PPS is intuitive and having the imbedded tutorial helps staying on course. There is no complete ways to program these devices outside of the PPS nor can you compare it to any scanner programmings. As mentioned above ability to import directly from RR is a plus. What I most enjoy about my monitoring experience is the ability to listen to my G5 and never have to be concern about missing key ups, monitoring locations, filters or delays . I just set it and forget it with limited interactions to gain more signals or better audio. My dealer ( Ray) has been supportive and informative.
