I currently hace a BC245XLT mobile, but have yet to master it! I would like a base unit for my home, preferably something thats idiot proof (me being the idiot). I do have a EDACS trunking system in my area I would like to monitor, its location is Pekin, Illinois. Any input would be appreciated.

There are a few choices for you. I am not promoting any of these sites, just using them as reference so you can see pics. The following are all trunking scanners and will follow EDACS (i think) There are older versions and you can buy used on ebay or some other places.

If you need digital (or will soon be needing it) the 2096 is a good choice, or the BC796D. Both are in the $500 range.

No digital. The 785D without the card has 1000 channels, text tags, and a lot of bells and whistles for under $300. There is also the BC780 with 500 channels but you'll have to find one used.

The new radio shack 2051 has 1000 channels but no text tags. Also the BCT8 has 250 channels with no text.

Also the BC898T with 500 channels and no text. The 895XLT has 300 channels
