I just purchased a new pro 106 and I have a few questions. Does this scanner have to be rebanded before I can manually program it? Seems like I read somewhere on this fourm about frequencies that end in zero can not be entered. I have the pc cord to hook up to the pc but I have found that my dvd drive is not working so can't install drivers. I'm in SW Va and can't find the stars freqs for Wytheville Va. Any help on that. I did find one for the far Sw part of the state. Just trying to get back to scanning after a long absence and things sure have changed. Thanks for any help.

You might want to try downloading the drivers right from the GRE website. This would avoid using the cd drive. As far as rebanding- I do not think that will be necessary before hand programming- lots of freqs. end in 0.

Also, look in the data base for your state to see what the freqs. are. A premium subscription to this site is worth every penny you pay for it. It will allow you to use one of the various software packages available to program the scanner with relative ease.

Yes, scanning has changed. This is the place to get ALL of your questions answered.

You only need to have the rebanding update done if rebanding has already happened in your area. While I haven't been keeping close tabs on that topic, I do not believe VA has undergone the change.

You should be able to program anything you want into the scanner, it just might not work well, if off frequency.

I'm in VA, STARS is P25 VHF so rebanding will not apply. The Mobile part ( a trailer with an extensible antenna for use in disaster areas) is 866-869 MHz which will eventually need rebanding. In this case, reduce each control frequencies by 15 MHz and maintain P25 Auto for system Type.
Use Virginia Statewide Agencies Radio System (STARS) Trunking System, Statewide, Virginia - Scanner Frequencies for data.

The System just opened for your area so use all red and blue frequencies of tower Sites 2XX plus Fort Lewis Mountain (Roanoke) which may reach Montgomery County. I use ALL talkgroups due to Microwave linkage between neighbouring towers when a unit affiliates with a neighbour.

Software is much easier and as mention above, a premium subscription to this site will allow downloading data to software.

That's your opinion. Does what you download have everything you want and nothing you don't want? I don't think so. I'm sure you end up editing what you have downloaded.

In my opinion, you are much better off simply cutting and pasting only the freqs./talk groups you want. Yes, you may have to edit some things out, but you'll have to do that with a Premium membership, too.
