First post here, so I should start by saying hello! I recently became interested in scanning and have a few basic questions I was hoping some of you might be willing to help me with.
1. How does a person find trunked frequencies? I have done some research on this site (which is the best I have found by far) in the RR Database and see some listings I was aware of. But it would be nice if I could search for trunked signals like I can for "normal" channels. I have a Radio Shack Pro-2052 and have read the manual a few times. It sounds as though I must know what frequencies are in use. I can't just find them through searching. Is that correct?
2. Also in regards to trunking, in my manual under each of the various types of trunking systems, reference is made to frequency ranges and steps in kHz. When reference is made to steps in kHz is this the same thing as spacing? For example, if I have a range of 935.0125-939.9875, and it is in 12.5 kHz steps, can I deduce that after 935.0125 I should then find my next valid frequency at 947.5125? I had thought in regards to my first question, if I program in every valid frequency that my scanner will handle, then I should be able to search all those frequencies and "find" activity.
3. For those of you with wider coverage (up in the 2 and 3 ghz range), do you find much activity up in these ranges? How does one determine if those upper ranges are even worth pursuing?
Thank you in advance. I have learned a great deal just reading these forums so far.
Regards,
Lincoln
