If I upload site 3 salt lake country do I also need to upload say site 11 Nelson Peak and any other Freq. in the area or does the site 3 cover all in the salt lake valley? If so what is a good way to set up your scanner I just got a new GRE 500 see I told you it was dum

In a nutshell, not you don't "need" to upload site 11, but here's the general idea:

If you want to listen to all services in SL County, listen to site 3.

If you want to listen mostly to higher priority services (PD, FD, Medical, SAR) listen to site 11 which also serves Tooele County and usually higher priority traffic from other counties. This is the general gist of local simulcast vs. wide area sites such as West Mtn, Nelson, Francis Pk, Mt. Odgen, etc.

Make sense?

First of all, camelcacher, we have tried to make it understood that there is no dumb question. If you have a question, ask it. Others may also have the same question. I would ask you to be a little more aware of things, though, because this question could have easily been added to the other thread you started about your problem with importing from the RR Db since it follows along the same line. Not a big problem, however.

As Jon said, you don't need to import site 011, but it would add to your ability to cover SL County. Consider it a backup to site 003. If you are using a Wild Card object as you scan, adding site 011 would allow more traffic from other areas such as Tooele County, Summit County, Utah County, and Davis County as mobile units affiliate with the site. Using a Wild Card with just site 003 imported will also open the possibilities of affiliations with units from Tooele County and Davis County.

As far as a good way to set up your scanner, everyone has a different definition of what a good way can be. It would really help us to help you if you would be more specific about what it is you want to listen to. After all, it is YOUR scanner, not ours. YOU decide what YOU want, and we can help you get there. Do want to listen to units from other counties or just Salt Lake? ...What kinds of units? ...Police? ...Fire? ...Both? ...Other kinds? ...those are the things we need to know.

I just ask the questions as they happen to me I wish I could ask all at one but you need to know what to ask before you can ask.

Hey, I'm not getting down on you. I understand and when you are confused or don't exactly know what is going on, it seems the whole world is against you. So let's back up.

  1. camelcacher, what kinds of units do you want to listen to?
  2. Do you want to listen to just Salt Lake County or do you want to include others such as Davis and Tooele Counties?
  3. Do you have anything currently loaded in your scanner?
  4. If yes, what is it and are you hearing anything?

You should be able to hear Davis Fire & Medical on Francis Peak which is site 9. I hear Francis good in West Jordan, not sure about the east side.

You may or may not hear it on Nelson.

Oh, I was under the impression you had your PSR-500, so you must have been trying to get things ready for when it arrived. That is good thinking.

I'm not sure why you cannot receive Davis County because it is a strong signal that I am receiving and it has not yet been rebanded so you should be able to hear it on the Pro-95 right now using site 002 Control Channel(s) 867.8125 and 867.8375. You will not be able to hear Francis Peak on the 95 because Francis has been rebanded.

The reason you are still receiving Salt Lake on your Pro-95 is that SL County (site 003) has not yet been rebanded. The Salt Lake City TRS (AC33) will probably not undergo any changes, but the Tooele County sites and Nelson Peak (site 011) have been rebanded so Tooele will be out of range for the 95.

EDIT TO ADD: You may not be able to pick up Davis County's site on the Pro-95 in Holladay because of line-of-sight issues, too.

Getting WIN500 Ready

Okay, I will try to lead you through the process. I will not guarantee that I won't accidentally miss or leave out a step, but it won't be on purpose. Also, you may have already covered some of this ground before. From your other posts I believe you have already been in some of these places. camelcacher, if you have anything already saved from your other attempts to import from RR, I suggest you delete it. This will start you from the very beginning.

So here goes:

  1. Open WIN500.
  2. Click on File then point to Web Import > Radio Reference > click on Trunked Systems.
  3. Fill in the information necessary to log in to your RR account, place check mark on Remember Me, and click Start.
  4. Select State of Utah and Salt Lake County.
  5. Select UCAN.
  6. Go down to the big box and click on "+" signs to expand both lists.
  7. Now expand site 002 Davis County, site 003 Salt Lake County, site 009 Francis Peak, site 011 Nelson Peak, and place a check mark in front of each of those sites as well as a check mark in front of each frequency on each one of those sites. DO NOT PLACE A CHECK MARK IN FRONT OF "UCAN" AT THE TOP OF THE LIST. This is what got you in a mess to begin with.
  8. Scroll down below the list of sites and expand the list of TGs for each site placing a check mark in front of each TG you want to import.
  9. After you have selected the sites and the TGs you wish to import, go to the upper right portion of that page and click on "Import This System."
  10. On the Web Import Settings page that comes up, decide on a name you wish to call this system and write it in the box provided.
  11. In the middle of the Web Import Settings page select the second (middle) radio button to import the proper tags for the TGs.
  12. Click Done.
  13. The program should now import the sites and TGs you have selected and populate the program for you to upload to your scanner once you get it.
  14. Click File > Save As... and save this to the folder on your computer where you have the WIN500 file giving it a name like "Set up" or whatever is easy for you.
Once you have your scanner let us know and we can then go into the rest of the settings you will need so you can start scanning.

Please ask your questions here in this thread. If anyone can see where I left out a step or went awry, please point it out.

EDIT TO ADD: Something else for you, camelcacher. Go to GRE America's site and download the PSR-500 Owner's Manual. It will NOT be included in the package with your radio. It is in PDF format and you can start reading it as you wait for delivery of your scanner.

Okay, I'm thinking that the Trunking Table needs to be updated because of the few sites that have been rebanded which you will now be able to hear.

  1. Open WIN500 and click on the TSYS Objects tab.
  2. On the right side, click the bar labeled Trunking Tables.
  3. On the trunking tables page that opens, click the down arrow and select 800 MHz Rebanded then click OK.
  4. Click the down arrow on the Trunking Tables menu box and select Custom.
  5. Click the down arrow on MultiSite Mode menu box and select Roam.
  6. Upload these changes to your scanner and once again save the file only this time just click Save.
Let us know if that solved the problem or if we need to look at something else.

To be honest, I'm tickled that I was able to get you this far. A guru and/or geek I am not, so I'm going to need some help from the others here on the Forum. You might also post in the GRE Scanner Forum to see if you can get an answer.

Right now I'm asking the other Utah members with GREs to give us a hand. I'm really sorry but I'm stumped.

Sounds to me the custom trunk table is not quite right. Let us know what your custom trunk table settings are.

I solved my problem such as camelcathers by clicking on tsys then on right side click on multisite mode and set it to OFF. i use roam when I travel so it switches towers as I get in range, works great for me.
Not knowing your situation and receiving strenths my soulution may not work for you. You could try and see. Pappy1

camelcacher, go back into your trunking tables and manually enter the table below overwriting the one that was automatically placed there.

Code:
[u]Lo Chan[/u] [u]Hi Chan[/u] [u]Offset[/u] [u]Base Freq[/u] [u]Step[/u]
0 439 0 851.012500 25.000
440 559 440 851.025000 25.000
560 719 560 865.012500 25.000
720 759 720 866.000000 25.000
815 831 815 867.000000 25.000
958 958 958 868.975000 25.000
961 1022 961 867.425000 25.000
Also try doing what pappy1 suggested and change from Roam to Off on MultiSite Mode.

Oh, and please don't start any more threads with the same questions you are asking in this one. It isn't necessary and won't get you answers any faster.

Post the talk groups your having trouble with, just a guess being from NJ and not knowing the system out there. Maybe they are one of the Encrypted talk groups I see in the system, wouldn't the scanner stop on them, but be muted?
