Hello all

First of all I must say that I live in the UK,so I presume it's OK for me to join?

Ok,I have a Bearcat UBC125XLT and a Watson 881 Supergainer Antenna.

I live in a village in the country, but I get a lot of Aircraft on approach into Manchester
And a lot overflying the UK en route to other destinations.

The antenna is not pulling manystations,so today I made a temporary antenna out of a length of TV coax and ran it out of the window.

The difference is amazing,so if I want to make this a more permanent antenna, what cable would be the best?

I can't have a roof mounted antenna but a loft antenna is possible.

Thanks

Alan

I am using my 2 meter/440 J-pole similiar to the one popnokick has suggested. I have it mount about 6 feet up on a pole, OUTSIDE, my shack window. Picks up a lot better than the rubber duckie antenna. Also use it with my 2 meter/ 440 Diamond antenna up about 30 feet. It's amazing how far it hears.

experiment

there is no rules for receiving, rules of thumb and guidelines.
you can use anything and see what happens.
i once helped a friend to get better 800 reception with just a paperclip.
like i said no rules. i have even used tv antennas.
about the only guideline is long wires for low frequencies and short for high ones.
have fun and enjoy.
