It certainly has a learning curve compared to most older conventional scanners, but if analog trunking is something you need it for, go for it. I have one and I like it a lot. I also have a Realistic PRO-95 which I believe is on clearence now for $99.00 and it's an excellent scanner. It won't be any good after rebanding 800mhz but that could be a while before that happens so for the time being it's a good choice too.

But since he is a n00b then there is no learning curve when comparing them to older scanners.
