Woa radio3353, I offered a retraction on ridiculous. Maybe too strongly worded. But listening to other's opinion's, has it's merit's.

and a comparison would be nice,if there were no string's attached.

Please construe this as my apology.

Owned my SDS100 since August, and it receives P25 simulcast system here much better than my 436 or HP2 ever did. However, noticed the SDS100 is very picky about the location I place it in my home. Just a 6" move on the table has a difference on reception quality, but sill much better than a 436. For full disclosure, don't have any other systems in my area beyond the p25 simulcast 700/800 that I have programmed.

I have also noticed that same problem with the SDS100. It could run for long stretches and not receive anything, but if I move it a few inches, stand it up from a horizontal to vertical position or simply rotate it I begin to hear transmissions. The 436 I had did not have that problem (using the same RS800 antenna) monitoring the same systems.

I don't know if it is a design flaw or whether I need to send it in for a warranty repair.

I have a feeling this is more down to RSS and your choice of antenna and/or location distance from the source of transmission. Without knowing more details, I apologize in advance if you're 2 mile from the nearest 100W transmitter [emoji6]

Asking a question like this will get you no where. You will just get responses from the lovers and haters. No answers.

Just buy one and see if it works FOR YOU. If it does, enjoy it. If not, return it. Do your own research. It is much more rewarding than sifting through endless opinions.

My 436 was pretty much useless w/ the simulcast system, no matter where I positioned it. I noticed there is a cell tower about 2 blocks away from my apartment building, & I've read the SDS100 can get overloaded near certain cell sites, so perhaps that may be playing into this reception issue. I have really good reception when I use it out of town & use the full database & zip code search,
