You guys in NL alive? I haven't heard back from a friend in St John's yet, but I'm presuming power may have him (and you) off line. Newspaper stories are insinuating that power "for most of the island" was disrupted after a substation in Holyrood went down early this AM. Kind of surprised that that's possible - I gather there's no redundant route along the South Coast to keep the west side going.

Heard from the fire chief in GFW - he's a Twitter acquaintance and friend of some of my family members. IIRC they got power back about 2pm NL time but some places in the surrounding area might not be back til 10:30pm.

(For those reading this who aren't in the area - there are plenty of pics and stories all over the net about ridiculous amounts of snow blanketing NL overnight. Multiple shots of doors and windows of homes with 40+" of snow piled against them.)

If you're reading this from the Rock, keep warm burning those hockey sticks! :)

Back to normal

I am in GF-W. The fire chief was actually my best friend from ages 4 to 11ish. Some places in town had their power back in the matter of 3 or 4 hours. I did without mine from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM. Things are pretty much back to normal.

One casualty was my TV. I should have heeded the warnings about leaving appliances plugged in and the possibility of a power surge.

I am also a little concerned about my BCD396XT. I hope it is either co-incidence or a problem on the transmission side but in the past few days I have been getting a much higher P25 error rate. I am even missing some traffic. I have been playing with the P25 adjust levels and just when I think I have the settings right it goes funny again. I have had the radio for almost 2 years and have not had this trouble before.
