Okay...I give up.

I may be demonstrating to the whole of cyberspace (or at least all those that read this board, anyway) my true level of technical ineptitude.

I have been a ham for 14 years, a radio/scanner user for 20 years, and a computer user (and occasional programmer) for 20+ years, but I absolutely cannot get my 296 to track Newington's LTR system. (Just to show I'm not a complete novice. Maybe a ninny, but not a novice!)

It isn't a Passport type, right?

Well, I'm stumped. I've entered in the right order, set up the bank as a trunking bank, and entered the TG's. The result: nada, zipp, and every other way to say "it don't work!"

Help!

I didn't dare post this to ConnScan, since I'm a Co-Moderator there and that would be too mortifying!

Embarrassed in Southington,
Mark, W1ARW

just monitored it today , no problem (250-D)

ch.1 460.375
ch.2 460.425
ch.3 461.6125 (home ch.)
ch.4 461.9375
ch.5 463.7375
ch.6 463.9875

this is the way i have it set up in bank 7 of my 250-D ch. 601-606
and only monitor the police and fire talkgroups.

I'm taking it, that it's probably a bit like digital (no pl) which blows me out of the water as far as monitoring goes because Milfords encrypted digital signal on 460.375 will blow them out of the water on my 296D

check to see if you have the right format of the LTR ID's. if you're scanning it, and the format is wrong (DEC's all screwed up), it will scan the freqs and never show any action...

Newington's LTR

Thanks to all of you gentlemen for the suggestions!

Apparently, I did have the radio programmed correctly to receive the system; I was simply out of range at my QTH in the Plantsville section of Southington. In fact, I brought the 296 to work today and, in my classroom in the Asylum Hill section of Hartford, Newington's system is still not full quiet with a Diamond RH707 duck.

Mystery solved.

Oh and two more things...

"but Mark ... there are CONNSCAN eyes and ears everywhere ... "

chris

Chris, how much is it worth ($$$) to you to keep this quiet!

Also, I'll post my Butel CT file in the ConnScan files section.

Thanks again! This is a great board.

nah, you are well within range, you can blame the Shuttle Meadow Reservoir Ridgeline for not hearing it.

Greeings, first post. :)

I had a Bearcat 245XLT which died on me last year. With all that has been going on in Newington Lately I decided to pick up a new RadioShack Pro 95 scanner.

I also picked up a copy or (go ahead and laugh) Police Call and got all the frequencies there.

I then came here and got to listing from the RR Database. And now I see the above frequencies which are slightly different then the ones in the database.

I have tried them ALL and with no luck. The only thing I hear is the squelch breaking on a few of the channels.

I programmed in Hartford, New Britain, West Hartford and some other surrounding towns with no problems, yet I am not picking up anything from Newington. Did they go Digital or something? What am I doing wrong?

Also whats the frequency so you can hear the Fire department? Someone told me that broadcast a channel so you can listen to the FD only.

Thanks

I don't believe the Pro-95 will trunktrack LTR systems so using it for Newington is out. (you can hear it but not trunktrack the system)

FD crosspatch is 154.445 pl 107.2

Thanks Chris.

I reset my unit and put in the frequencies again and now am hearing some police activity, although for some reason every few seconds I get a sound like someone keys up a mic for a second but never says anything. (kind of annoying) :)

That key-up is part of the LTR system. Be happy they are not using Passport LTR at that can key up every couple of seconds.
The system is slow enough to listen in a conventional mode. During busy times, you will not be able to follow a conversation easily.
