Living close to this mornings truck fire on the NJTP and seeing 4 news helicopters flying above made me question why I don't know what Freqs they chatter on. Does anyone have any info on this? I'm looking for how they communicate with their stations and how they talk to each other as well as local airports.

Thanks!

The remote broadcast frequencies are 450-451 and 455-456 MHz, 12.5 kHz steps starting at 45x.0125 to 45x.9875. Cell phones have replaced a lot of the communications that used to be heard on these frequencies but some chatter can still be heard. The other day I heard the Philly CBS3 news copter hovering over a truck freight warehouse fire about 12 airmiles from me. I am too far from Philadelphia to hear the simplex operations but some day when I travel to the city...

News choppers use 123.025 to talk to other news choppers in the area. If it is a big incident with more than one chopper in the air you will hear them on this frequency.
