I can't think of a better way for the DC police to alienate themselves from the public. I hope the questionable safety they think they will acheive by encrypting their radios is worth the destruction of what ever good relationship they have with the communities they "serve". True profesional police officers would be insulted by encryption, it says that their bosses don't trust their ablities. Unfortunatly no amount of coverage by the media will interest the public to fight this steepening of the "slippery slope" toward the loss of liberty in the name of security. Don't expect any cops to speak out against it, you might as well be involved in a gun fight with some "perps" and not have fired a shot!
