How long does everyone think it will take for VHF/UHF to be completely obsolete for public safety? I guess what I'm asking is how long until Public Safety Comms are strictly on trunked systems??

It will be a long long time. I believe VHF and UHF conventional systems will continue on even after they are forced to become digital for spectrum use reasons.

For Colorado at least it will be some time, take for instance Boulder county, they dispatch for at least 5 different agencies, all of which running VHF. They won't switch and also can't money wise.

VHF will always have a place in the backcountry of Colorado. 800 just doesn't cut it for SAR and fire type activities.
