In regards to a post a while back about Newton county Fire going to MotoTrbo, I spoke to one of the Fire Association members and she told me they are just waiting for one part, not sure what kind, for the antenna and then we'll make the switch. We already have the MIP5000 console system in our dispatch and i'm just waiting to get the word to "flip the switch." As soon as we do, I'll make another post saying that we have switched over to DMR.

Will it be encrypted DMR or in the clear DMR (meaning it can be monitored with DSD software)?

From my experience most of the FD's that choose DMR, usually do not use enhanced security, unlike about half the PD's and SO's.

No need to explain the difference between encrypted or clear. I'm a radio technician. No, no encryption will be used. Even on the law enforcement side we do not use encryption. It would be to much of a hassle in the eyes of those making the final decisions in regards to our systems we use. Lol. If they even know the difference. Plus, theres not to many folks around here that know how to tap a scanner and use dsd.

Well, I figured it out and I'm sure no rocket scientist! Tapping my Pro-96 scanner was pretty easy. It took a bit of work getting DSD+ and Windows recording system settings set up correctly but now I am successfully monitoring Dardanelle PD's MotoTRBO system.
