Newtown new EMS frequency

Newtown has moved EMS off of the Fire frequency to their own new frequency (and digital, I expect unencrypted P25). I'm new to scanning and got an SDS100, so I'm trying to figure out how to find the new channel. Any advice or pointers to a tutorial would be appreciated.

Try the Discovery Mode process:

Discovery

Or one of the Search Options.

Good luck!

Welcome to the RR forums. First I would try removing the DPL tone from the known frequency and if you suspect they've migrated to a digital mode, edit the channel and set audio type to "Digital Only" > Digital Code Option: "Search". If you're not 100% sure they went digital, set audio type to "All" and this should give you the new tone info whether analog or digital

If no joy with the RRDB listed frequency, try the other frequencies on the license. Be sure to submit the updated info to the database.

Good luck!

Thanks. I do know that 154.1225 is staying as just Fire now, so that won't work, but I do see several frequencies on the license that are not in the RRDB, so I'll try those. I'm pretty certain the new EMS-only service is digital but can't hurt to set to "all."

So I believe Fire and EMS switched to a P25 phase 2 system. How would one go about finding that on an SDS100 since the RR database is not updated yet?

Phase II would be Trunking and the only nearby Phase II Trunk is
but there is nothing in the DB

PD is conventional P25, so are you sure Phase II ?? or just P25, which most agencies just re-use the same channel/frequencies.
Take the DPL off and see what you hear

That's what I'm doing now, listening to the same frequency without the DPL. Might just be a slow day for EMS.

Newtown EMS had plenty of calls today and nothing came over the normal dispatch frequency with the DPL turned off.

The FD issued pagers are Unication G2’s, so it’s still in the VHF high band.

Anything on 151.0175? Listed in the DB as public works (although the license looks to be listed erroneously. The now expired license doesn't feature the aforementioned frequency) 151.0175 DOES appear on the same license as 154.1225. Worth giving a looksee

I wonder if they are running encrypted talkgroups on CLMRN. Look for "197xx" TGs on CLMRN.

I'm not close enough to test, but there are two repeater frequencies (152.2700 & 152.2775 WRDW879) that are listed as analog and are addressed as "ATTN COMMS DEPT PW/FD Siren FCC LICENSE". Maybe it's one of those since PW is already using 151.0175. Don't see anything else recently licensed.

Here's what I've found:
Fire is on the same old 154.1225, but now with P25 NAC=6D9 (did they let the firefighters pick that NAC...?)
EMS is now on what used to be listed as Public Works, 151.0175 but now with P25 NAC=546

Interesting, so maybe the public works is now operating on one of the 152 frequencies I mentioned?

On the SDS 100, how do you change the NAC if the frequency is till 154.1225?
Assuming it's in your Favorites, you can edit the channel in Sentinel: Audio Option=Digital, P25 NAC=6D9.

If you're just scanning from the database, wait until the update I submitted goes through and reload after Sunday. :)

Maybe. When I had all of Newtown in my analog scanner, I can't remember ever hearing anything on that 151.0175 frequency, so who knows how long that's been defunct before this switch.

Someone beat you to the punch! :ROFLMAO: But it's in the DB now.

They (public works) were on 151.0175 D546 as recent as January 2021, when I last heard them there. They either switched to another frequency or have gone the LTE route so many other public works departments. Please keep your ear peeled.
