• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello Everyone,
I am the Radio Systems Administrator for an SMR Service in my area. We currently have 31 sites that are running Gen 2. We have been experiencing a myriad of issues with the Gen 2 system. So much so that we are considering reverting all our sites back to Gen 1 as our coverage area has shrank considerably and customers are not happy. I have noticed that when observing the symbol decode for a local control channel, one of the symbols is off by about 5%-10%. This is true for every NXR-5800 we have tested. The process for tuning these repeaters in no small task, especially considering the number we currently have deployed...

We have a Gen1 and Gen2 control channel co-located at the same site, fed into the same combiner and antenna. (All of which is new and factory tuned by TX/RX Systems) I ran a test to see what the fringe RSSI is. Please see the attached photo for the comparison. This test was ran on two good mobile antennas of the same gain and location on the vehicle. Has anyone else ran into this issue with Gen2?

I would be very surprised. Kenwood makes really good stuff and takes things like this very seriously. I am sure they will get you squared away. Please keep us informed. TT

I'm not Kenwood-wise so these are not manufacturer specific questions. Have you measured the power out of the combiner for both channels to see if they are equal? Have you moved your vehicle a little to see if the imbalance stays the same or flip-flops? Have you swapped antennas on the two mobiles to make sure the imbalance doesn't follow the antenna?

RF side of things is good. Combiner was factory tuned by TX/RX systems for the frequencies used. When I check the cans with my service monitor, I get the expected isolation at each can.

I have swapped the two mobile antennas.

I have driven around and the delta between the two systems’ RSSI in the fringe is persistent.

It does not make sense that if you are getting the same power from each transmitter at the top of the combiner stack, that you have that much variation with the RSSI for each transmitter.

Factory tuned doesnt mean much to me as I deal with factory mistuned combining and filtering several times a month. That being said, have you measured the power coming out of the combiner on all system transmit frequencies? TT

I'm only running a Gen 1 system, so I have no input on the Gen1 vs. Gen 2 side of this, but I doubt that is causing the RF issues.

I didn't see this mentioned anywhere, but have you tried switching radios? I mean specifically, put the Gen 2 system on the NX-800 and the Gen 1 system on the NX-5800 to see if the issue follows the radio or the system.
