• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm looking for a bit of help/advice from someone with practical experience of programming a Kenwood Nexedge (conventional) system please.

To get straight to the point, I'd like to set up one radio in the network that has the ability to monitor ALL traffic on ALL frequencies programmed in the scan list...irrespective of the RAN, GID and UID used on those frequencies.

Can anyone confirm/clarify that to achieve this I'd need to enter:
- Each Rx frequency into the zone and set RAN Decode for each to None (ie to receive all 63 possible RAN codes in use)

- In the Group ID list, do I have to enter at least one ID as 'ALL' or do I have to keep the list completely clear of all IDs, or does this matter? I assume that if I only enter some specific Group IDs in this list, it would only unmute when those and only those Group IDs are in use?

- What do i need to do by way of Unit ID (as there doesn't appear to be an ALL option). Does it matter if I enter some but not all UIDs: ie will it still unmute on a UID that isn't programmed in this list?

Any other settings I need to enable/disbale?

I've been led to believe that I really only need to set RAN decode to None, and that all GIDs and UIDs in use on that channel will be displayed as default, irrespective of what I have in the GID/UID lists.

To compare with my equivalent MotoTRBO setup, for each frequency I MUST enter the correct Color Code (there is no ability to scan all Color Codes unless I add all of them as individual channels) AND I also MUST enter each valid Group ID to the scan list. User ID doesn't matter and is displyed as default......If I don't have all of these variables in correctly I will misss some transmissions. I'm hoping the Nexedge implementation is a bit more user friendly.

TIA,

Jim

You are correct:
-you do not need to program a group, just leave the table empty
-no ran is the equivalent of carrier squelch
-you will need to have a NXDN ID entered, however it will not effect receiving
If you program it for mixed mode with no PL & no RAN you will receive all analog and NXDN on the channel. However, no matter what you do, it will not receive Nexedge trunked transmissions. The only way to receive from a trunked system is to program the radio using the correct system key and a valid ID
