I've got a question that pertains to racing in general. Is there ANY advantage to purchasing a race scanner over programming a scanner you already own and bring it?

Yes. It gives you a reason to buy another radio! Some of them you can set to car numbers and text tags.

I picked up a PRO-99 just for the races. Its small and takes just a couple of button presses to find any car you want plus its computer programmable. Not only that but its a pretty good all around conventional scanner at a good price.

Man, though, $149!! for that race scanner. A little steep, unless you go to a lot of races. I might go 1 or 2 times up to Dover (free tickets from my Aunt) 8)

Not at all considering gordo only won it from that last caution that flew. I'm not saying Jr would have won but I am sure a train would have went on by ol gordo and left him in the dust :D

the Pro-99 is a really underrated scanner. I just wish they would not have put race track pro on it. I don't know too many teams that use CTCSS but it is a nice small scanner for use off the track too, now if would only trunk and....
