That is what the rebanding subject has been talking about for months. But to be correct, motorola has nothing to do with this. Please check the rebanding thread and you will learn the truth.

I wouldn't say nothing. They are the ones who will be selling the firmware chips for the radios with that type of firmware. They are the ones who will reportedly be making the radios NexTel will be trading the current users whose radios can't be upgraded. They will be the ones selling the infrastructure equipment for the new frequencies. They are far from 'having nothing to do with this'.

However, they are not one of the main parties to the deal NexTel made with the FCC.

Now let's not muck it all up like the other thread, OK?

In simplest terms the 800mHz channels are being reallocated in order to eliminate cell phone interference to public service radio systems. (It was a huge mistake to begin with.) Nextel is the biggest user so has the most channels to move and so the greatest amount of money at stake.

Let's not get all confused and kick off another conspiracy theory, everybody must bear the cost of moving and Nextel has the greatest investment is all. Each has his own cross to bear and frankly the most grumbling is coming quite prematurely from the scanner community before anyone really knows how we'll be affected and what manufacturers are going to do.

Nextel must pay allof the cost of rebanding for public safety agencies. IT will not cost public safety a penny. The FCC is even requiring Nextel to pay for the cost of a department to inventory its radios.

Nextel had to post a bond to cover allof these costs with the FCC. The FCC has appointed a Transition Administrator that will handle the channel assignments and payments.

If an agency has radios that can't be reporgramed, then Nextel is required to replace them with radios that will work in the 851 range. These are comparable radiios, not necesarily new ones.

The rebanding has nothing to do with "cell phones", it deals with Nextel SMR interference.
